The Return by Lacey Sturm

Sturm_TheReturn_wspine.inddI had no idea what to expect when I requested to review this book.  Wanting to not read another piece of fiction – this looked interesting.  I have to admit, until I was through the introduction, I had no idea who Lacey Sturm is.  I am so glad that didn’t stop me from spending time with this offering.

Lacey is best known in the Rock music genre as the lead singer with Flyleaf.  A band whose members are Christian, but they are not specifically a christian band.  Lacey  had a crisis of faith, and in desperation wanted to take her life.

God reached out, and thankfully, she did not.  During the coming out of those dark times, (and likely still) she journalled.  And in her journals are prayers, song inspirations, lyrics, scripture reflections, recipes, to do lists and deep cries of her heart.

I could see the format being used as a devotional, or even a study with a youth group.  It would be an incredible too to jump start discussions on a very relevant level for issues facing our teens today.  And to read that from a musician who lives her faith, yet isn’t preachy would be fantastic.

I was challenged by some of her thoughts and words, but that’s not a bad thing.  I’m glad I was able to soak in her writing.

This independent review is mine and mine alone, and the book has been provided courtesy of Baker Publishing Group and Graf-Martin Communications, Inc.
