The 49th Mystic – A Review of Ted Dekker’s New Book

49MysticI am an avid reader, and it you have followed me for any amount of time – you know that I love to read books outside of my comfort zone.  Well, this one certainly fit that bill.

Ted Dekker is known for writing books that are beyond the expected.  He has an uncanny gift of being able to take Biblical truths and spinning amazing allegories for this readers.  This offering is no different in showcasing that ability.  Set in Eden, Utah, a blind young woman is our, and may well be civilization’s, heroine.  While unable to see in her everyday life, she is gifted with sight as she finds herself in a very different world when she sleeps.

Through her encounters, Ted is able to present the gospel, and challenge the popular teachings of today’s popular, but not so accurate preachers.  Having not read the Circle series prior to this, I can assure you that it is indeed a stand alone series, but yer – I understand it continues with characters from it.

While this is not a genre – Scifi – that I choose to read, I was glad for the challenge.  I respect Ted’s approach to presenting the Gospel in ways that not many other authors are willing to do.  His work is cutting edge, and can sometimes be off-putting for those who are fans of works that take up the majority of space in Christian fiction sections…

I would highly recommend this to male readers, those who definitely don’t want to read another romance, and teens who enjoy the otherworldly in their reading choices.    Book has been provided courtesy of Revell Publishing and Graf-Martin Communications, Inc.
