Accidental Guardian by Mary Connealy
One of my favourite things about holidays is that I have days set aside to be completely luxurious and read a full book in one sitting. I’m so grateful that this summer’s time allowed time for this offering.
Accidental Guardian is the first book in the High Sierra Sweethearts series by Mary Connealy. The story begins with the scene of a burnt out wagon train, and Deborah Harkness is the sole adult survivor. Knowing that she needs to care for her sister, and two toddlers who are now parentless, she begins to pray and search for shelter from her attackers.
Trace Riley, a man well acquainted with the trademark of those who would have the local Indian tribe blamed for the murders arrives on scene and agrees to take Deborah and the children to his mountain home until it’s safe for them to continue their journey westward.
Trace and his two partners aren’t sure what to do with these people in their home – women and children are not a part of their day-to-day world. So it is with tension, confusion and wonderful moment of humor that a new life is carved out of a very bad situation.
Knowing that God is at the center of all that they do, this book is a refreshing read in the Historical Romance genre. I’m excited to have it be the latest edition to our church library.
