May

May 16 – Today’s scripture focus was Matthew 4:4 – ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’
We decorated cookies  (sorry about the sugar high), and talked about the importance of flour and grains in our diets.  When we eat the right kinds of grains – we feel better, have more energy, and it keeps us healthy.  Just as we need to eat grains every day, we need to have God’s Word in our lives every day.  We get that by getting into our Bibles.  It doesn’t need to be pages and pages, but it should be something that is a regular part of our “diet”.

This week, as a family, try an experiment.  See if you can read through a book of the Bible together.  Find a time when it works for you – breakfast, bedtime…whatever, just read scripture together.  Find a translation that all of you understand, (if you don’t have one, email me and I’ll get you one), and by reading just a couple of chapters a day – you’ll be through it in no time.  A great one to start with is Matthew…lots of action, drama and a great ending.

May 23 – Today we celebrate the birthday of The Church.  The disciples were gathered, praying, and not really sure of what to do now that Jesus had ascended.  And just like Jesus promised – he sent The Holy Spirit to them.  It would have been quite something to be in the room.  It came as a flame on the heads of all the believers, and caused them to speak in all the languages gathered.  Thus was born the church.  Called to bring the message that Jesus came and rose again to save us, that God so longs for relationship with us that He sent His Son to show us how to have that relationship.

Sometime this week – make some cupcakes together, and sing Happy Birthday to the Church.  Go to http://www.articlesbase.com/relationships-articles/how-to-wish-happy-birthday-in-different-languages-46741.html  and learn how to say Happy Birthday in another language.
